The federal government recently announced that the duration of Employment Insurance benefits will increase from 15 weeks to 26 weeks on December 18, 2022. For the moment, insurers are assessing how to position themselves in relation to this change. At first glance, there would be no obligation on the part of plan sponsors to make changes to their contracts. However, we are in contact with insurers to find out the impact on our customers’ plans and rates, if any. We’ll get back to you shortly with more details on how to proceed with your insurer, should your plan require changes.
With regard to the reduced EI premium rate, there are no changes to be made at this time. You remain eligible for the reduced rate until further notice. The federal government will make its decision in the coming months, and we’ll be sure to keep you informed.
